Claire Wiltsher
Claire Wiltsher works from a beautiful garden studio in Lyndhurst and is one of our most admired contemporary landscape artists. Her subtly evocative colour palette and painterly treatment of storm‑laden Dorset skies often recall the atmospheric drama of J. M. W. Turner. When she’s not painting, Claire runs workshops from her studio, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to explore their creativity and develop their artistic confidence.
Inspired by the Hampshire and Dorset coastlines and the New Forest, Claire creates distinctive square, semi‑abstract canvases that combine layered oil paint with fragments of collage. She often scratches back through these layers to reveal hidden colours and textures beneath.
“I want to create evocative paintings of land and sea that show a sense of place; different weather conditions are key elements.”
Claire’s work is widely collected, with two contemporary landscapes selected for the House of Lords’ permanent art collection. She has achieved both national and international recognition as a landscape artist, and Coastal Gallery is delighted to feature her work. Prices range from £395 to £1,995.
