Gohar Goddard

Gohar Goddard was born in Persia (now Iran) and spent her childhood in France and Pakistan, absorbing the rich visual languages of each culture. She settled in England in 1967 and originally trained as a ceramicist. In 1985, she opened Ziggurat, a luxury yarn store in Kensington, and a decade later founded the English Weather clothing label, celebrated for its distinctive cashmere designs and bold use of colour.

In recent years, Gohar has turned increasingly towards painting, drawing inspiration from artists such as Matisse, Klee and Tàpies. A visit to Cornwall also introduced her to the work of fellow colourists William Scott and Roger Hilton, further shaping her artistic direction.
