Stephen Powell

Stephen Powell is an accomplished painter and printmaker with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Printmaking from Hornsey School of Art in London. He has exhibited widely across the UK and Europe, and his work is represented in numerous private and public collections. In 1990, he was appointed Artist in Residence for the prestigious Art on the Waterfront project, funded by Southampton City Art Gallery. 

Working from his New Forest studio, Stephen creates across a broad range of media and scale — from intimate works on paper to large commissioned pieces for public spaces. 

As he explains, “My work is not abstract in total. I always have subject matter and try to get closer to it through the use of a broad vocabulary of mark making, linked to considered use of colour and composition.”
